Something something “with a name like orange caramell they gotta be sweet” then run me over with a bulldozer. This group basically used to make Jpop in a bunch of different languages and called it the “One Asia” project because South Korea is some kind of fairyland where people believe music can sooth the deep lacerations of ancient ethnic and territorial conflicts. I think there have been animes made about idol groups fighting in World War III or something and Orange Caramell is kinda like that. More importantly, they are a source of fluffy, cuddly, run-on-sentence-producing dance tracks that make me feel good. This album is half old singles, half new tracks. The new ones have a cold, plastic, affected euro synthpop veneer but the songwriting is still big game. As groups change concepts and images so often these days, this album is typically confused and devoid of any pace or coherence, much like the idiot words my fingers make, but that doesn’t stop it from being a sweet basket of easter eggs. How’s that for an unseasonal metaphor?

립스틱 (LIPSTICK) - here we go again with the kylie minogue bass this time with seasick whining leads and a familiar chord progression
the chorus is pretty damn catchy as it starts out a bit like “theres a place in france…” or by extension that one ke$ha song haha
아잉♡- and old single and you cant really go wrong with those from this group. immediately out of place with its 80s jpop spunk and strings
its going to be one of those mishmash compilations where the old tracks clash with the reinvented group style whoops
마법소녀 (魔法少女) - another hyperactive old single that still pleases with its manic changes and played up oriental scale dancing
much of the old orange caramel sounds like very good jpop idol tracks but it takes away from the cohesion of the album
아직… - its a really slow ballad and im already really mad because its a ballad please stop immediately. its the most generic shit haha
kpop ballads are just intermissions for you to crack open another beer
Superwoman - a midtempo anthemic thumper that has a bit of a lady gaga feel to it and some male dude rapping pretty well
this chorus is very big and thunderous the hoovers and bass are torrential against a belted out uplifting melody. super catchy and moody
One Love - another groove track with deep humming bass and r&b percussion its a sing song hapy numb banger and perhaps an old single too?
샹하이 로맨스 (上海之戀) - another old single that has the cutesy urget cheerleader energy to it with blistering percussion still very spinnable
클라라의 꿈- why is there spanish style acoustic guitar in my kpop i am confused and scared dont hurt me now there are accordians im hiding now
actually this is a very sweet precious 3/4 crooner in the style of old french pop it is lilting and charming and warm
눈을 감아- why are there music box chimes and like every fucking keyboard ballad presetlike woodblocks and shakers and OH FUCK YOU KOREA
ok now this is just a 90s anime ED with big big strings and orchestral toms and yearning probably

this is the number 2 mixtape of mahou brand kpop witches entertainment bringing you live and uncut the best kpop shit you could expect to find released from january through june 2012
a lot of this is boy bands that i neglected to put in the last tape because i really like tits and pussy so it took me a while to appreciate what dicks and balls could do for the korean popular music scene and some of them are really making me horny so they made the list
really i dont think its as good as the last tape and the t-ara track leaves something to be desired because they super fell off after funky town and i cry myself to sleep every night about it but somehow i manage to press on
im drinking pabst blue ribbon beeru because its a really nice beverage that makes me not want to die and it cost 12.99 for a 24 pack so you cant beat that eh
this straight up sounds like its from an anime op its the most japanese kpop track ive ever heard it has driving dumbass powerchords twee tweeting synths and twinky slapbass all at a pace of 150~ bpm and it really makes me wish that i did have a boyfriend because its so perky much like my dick when i look at pictures of this band
2. A Pink - I Got You
again finds a pink forging ahead into fierce sexy empowered girl group territory and it works surprisingly well for them. they waste no time getting to the chorus from the no holds barred electro house lead-in and the vocals hit the just right pitch of cute and coquettish both alluring yet in control. the perfectly timed cutesy chant of “i got you” will most certainly get you if youre into this kind of thing
3. T-ARA - HUE
i dont know what hue means and this song is just kind of unnerving and i dont know how to feel when i listen to it. theres a lot of cooing and ravey hoover synths which are both in this year but what really makes it for me is the 80s era fat bass synth that goes BYOW BYOW during the harmonic minor melody parts of the song which are clearly the best parts. i dont really understand why this is a t-ara song its just bizarre and not something a normal person would willingly listen to but i do because it goes BYOW BYOW
4. MBLAQ - 전쟁이야
this is one of those extremely dramatic urgent power ballad boy band songs that feel like the band is hollering at you as theyre holding their dead 5 year old sister in their hands and asking you to account for your crimes against humanity. the bands voices sound pretty and the lilting piano accompaniment grounds the track building into the chorus with a solid call and response vocal hook and requisite soaring strings
5. Teen Top - To You
remember what i said about cooing well its back motherfucker this track is all about soothing beautiful man cooing and jazzy drum patterns. the muted guitar picking and whining synths in the background lend a deep texture to this track that one might otherwise miss on first listen. the rapid fire rhythmic vocals sometimes sung sometimes rapped attacking in patterns of twos and threes make the song even stickier. at first you might dismiss it but closer listens bring this track to life
6. f(x) - Electric Shock
THE banger of the year so far this track is huge and addictive and has a SS fierce ranking slaughtering all who dare cross its path with buzzing bass cocksure vocal delivery ball busting buildups and an orgasmic chorus. if nothing else this track has infinite attitude where other groups fall short and rest on the songrwriter to do the job for them (see: KARA). f(x) has always been a performance-based band and this is a place where they can prove themselves (watch the lives for real)
7. Dal Shabet - Mr. BANG BANG
again we see dal shabet pushing their wistful heartbroken side and it works shockingly in their favor. the minor key chord changes jab at your heart-strings while each syllable of the sung-spoken verses rip open the track with genuine angst youd never expected from the group. their voices have never been perfect but here the imperfections are all the more endearing when you hear their voices crack and thrust into heretofore unknown territory. the instrumental version is fantastic on its own as well
8. IU - 하루 끝
its iu dont ask questions she is by far one of the top tier kpop artists in the game who elevates the business above fabulous dance tracks into yearning soaring life-changing anthems of self-discovery. strangely enough here its the production that carries the track for her with its giddy scale climbing falling strings hook propelling things forward alongside the four on the floor light rock rhythm section. as always iu delivers a nuanced charming and simply delightful performance showing that shes thrown herself into the track with all her heart
9. gangkiz - HONEY HONEY
the groups name makes no sense and the name of their first album was “we became gang” which is just laughable in itself and you feel like some six year olds accidentally saw the sopranos and thought they were real tough. in truth this track is super silly and fun with its bouyant bassline jangling percussion and especially very much so the hyperactive brass hook and yes there is more cooing of course there is cooing are you a fucking idiot. the vocals are a delicious falsetto which dance with the rhythm section in a pleasing way and its hard to have more fun in kpop this season
10. EXO - History
exo is a big fucking deal. dont fuck with exo. if you disprespect exo i will cut you. exo is the best hottest shit boy group to come out in a while and in fact inspired me to give boy groups a legitimate chance. theyre a sm band and between this mini shinee and f(x) this year i feel like sm really took back their rightful place as kings of kpopland. this start-stop tribal pulsing percussive track was their second single but i prefer it to the lead single. it seemingly evokes another world taking you to jungles or mountain ranges as the deep drum track envelops you. the vocals are exceptionally smooth even if this isnt the swagger track that mama was
11. SHINee - Sherlock
this is by far the best kpop track of the year so far and along with exo it has made me embrace boy bands as something legitimate awesome and also a thing i want to violate me with every fiber of my being. this song surprises with so many twists and turns. the production is so fucking dense and velvetly chocolate that you could lose yourself in its gorgeous folds. the group belts out the chorus as if its life depended on it as if it was calling to the heavens “I’M SO CURIOUS YEAH”. there are really no words for this song but its the sexiest thing ive heard all year and its no wonder that the fandom joke is to sing the chorus as “I’M BICURIOUS YEAH”. i purposely made this the last track so that you would feel empty inside after finishing the tape

REVIEW/LIVETWEETS : After School - PLAYGIRLZ
It’s Spring, and you know what that means: KPop has decided to unleash a torrent of unspeakable maggot hellspawn upon the earth in the form of Japanese releases. Japanese is just a terrible language to sing things in and I would highly advise against doing so. Also the current Japanese pop market seems to like little girl shouting and can’t deal with basslines with more than two notes. After School released their JP album and it’s just an unholy clusterfuck. Some of these songs are Glam Girl, others are Good Bye Baby (as in I’m saying goodbye to them because they’re bad). This doesn’t even play like an album, it’s just a random collection of awkward club songs, good club songs, and awkward versions of good club songs. Shampoo just got fucking curbstomped in the JP version. Honestly it’s best just to cut out the few decent originals on here (Just in time, Gimme Love) and throw them on your latest “dying alone vol. 69” Kpop playlist.
